Abstract This paper suggests that there are facts of a fundamentally different kind to be discovered, namely, natural processes that aresimultaneously partly physical and partly nonphysical, processes that I call transrobotic. At some point in evolution, life produced amental world that is beyond computation. Organisms became more than robots. Transrobotic mentality offered an external meansof altering some of the otherwise deterministic or probabilistic physical processes taking place within the organism’s body. Longbefore the emergence of consciousness, transrobotic mentality developed a genuine independence from the physical processesthat it partially controls. The conscious human self is much more than robotic brain activity. Theories of this kind are often thought to be ruled out becausethey violate conservation, but local violations are to be expected where and when nonphysical mentality interacts with the physicalorganism. • Priming students to calculate inhibits sense-making

Abstract Many students who struggle with math believe that doing math is remembering a rigid set of rules and procedures (Givvin et al.,2011). This may be the cause or consequence of students applying procedures without reasoning, or using buggy algorithms (Brown& Burton, 1977). If students tried to make sen... [Read more].
Abstract Many students who struggle with math believe that doing math is remembering a rigid set of rules and procedures (Givvin et al.,2011). This may be the cause or consequence of students applying procedures without reasoning, or using buggy algorithms (Brown& Burton, 1977). If students tried to make sense of a problem, they may be able to reduce their use of buggy algorithms, butif students try to carry out procedures without reasoning, their inappropriate use of algorithms might increase. We examined thisconjecture by first priming students to implement a procedure then asking them to solve a problem that required sense-making.Results indicated that when primed to use procedures to calculate, students stop engaging in sense-making and rely on recallingprocedures. Abstract In this paper, User Experience (UX) of Intelligent Personal Assistants (IPAs) was investigated through semantic networkanalysis. As a case study, UX of smart speakers which are a kind of embodied IPAs was investigated through semantic networkanalysis based on online reviews, identifying what factors are important to UX of IPAs for users. Although there were somelimitations, this study contributed to understanding of UX of IPAs, by proposing eleven important factors for UX of IPAsand validating them. This study showed that most of the users satisfied the use of IPAs, although they felt that performance wasnot completely reliable, which was similar with previous studies related to IPAs. In addition, this study showed the aesthetic aspectsare also important for users’ enjoyment, which was the interest result. The results of this study are noteworthy and consideredto be reflected in the design of IPAs to improve UX of IPAs and satisfy users. [Collapse]

Abstract The article deals with the problems of cognitive and behavioral mature persons’ attitude to their own health and disease (typicalpatterns of behavior of the persons in the state of disease, their irrational negative judgments and pathogenic thinking about theirhealth). The results of empirical research concerning the attitude of mature persons to the disease are presented, in particular: thediagnosis of pathogenic thinking has been carried out, features of the attitude towards their own symptoms are highlighted, the incidence of the disease and psychosomatic complaints of respondents have been revealed, the frequency of referrals for aspecialist (doctor), peculiarities of caring about their own health and peculiarities of behavior in a state of disease are determined, the basic types of attitudes of the mature age persons to the disease are elucidated etc. The authors have found that persons of matureage mostly listen to their own bodies and observable complaints, however, they are prone to self-treatment. It has been definedthat most mature persons do not trust the proper training of a specialist of helping professions, including a modern physician. The correlation of the indicators of empirical research of attitude to the disease according to the type of response has been analyzed.A comparative analysis of indicators of the types of attitude to disease (Rivne and Vinnytsia regions), the correlation of empiricalindicators of attitude to disease according to the type of reacting, thinking and psychosomatic complaints has been executed.According to the results of the study two groups of risk are identified: individuals with an intrapsychic orientation of personalresponse to the disease and persons with a sensitized attitude to the illness. It has been found out that in the state of disease, personsof a mature age produce a set of adaptive techniques mostly compensatory. The authors have empirically evaluated that amongthe strategies of psychological response and their typical patterns of behavior in the state of the disease, respondents have beencharacterized by denial, ignoring the disease; neurotic medication; accusing oneself of being ill, a prolonged depressed state; typicalevaluative negative judgments and pronounced psychosomatic complaints. Abstract This study exploits the benefits of combining corpora and experimental methods to investigate how Korean speakers acquireunaccusativity in English. Focusing on overpassivization, we comprehensively investigated three questions: (i) Are Koreanspeakers sensitive to the unaccusative/unergative distinction in English? (ii) Are they able to distinguish unaccusatives fromtransitives? (iii) Which factors among agentivity, telicity, and animacy do they rely on? We explored both native and learnercorpora consisting of approximately 40 million words to analyze the collostructural patterns of the overpassivized forms. We alsoadministered acceptability judgement tests to 173 learners and 27 native speakers. The results from both methods converge.(i) Replicating previous studies, we substantiated that Korean speakers can distinguish unaccusatives from unergatives. (ii)We discovered that they can also distinguish unaccusatives from transitives. (iii) We further found that telicity has an effect onoverpassivization of unaccusatives. This study is meaningful in obtaining the findings by using a combination of corpus andexperimental methods to provide a more rigorous test of L2 learners’ knowledge of unaccusativity. [Collapse]
